Despite being priced competitively and leaving no carbon footprints behind, the eco-friendly and noise-free electric two-wheelers failed to catch the imagination of the Indian consumers. The major reasons for the lacklustre run of the EV bikes are the boring design complemented with unreliable quality.
But with with India government's push for full EV nation by 2030, more automakers have started working on electric two-wheelers seriously.
The industry may still be in its infancy, but that has not stopped Bengaluru-based technological start-up Emflux Motors to make India's first electric sports bike.
Yes, you read it right. In the upcoming Auto Expo 2018 in February, Emflux Motors will lift the veil of the first made-in-India electric motorcycle christened Model 01, according to the company website.
The electric sports bike from Emflux will be powered by a liquid cooled AC induction motor that can generate 84Nm of torque at 8400rpm. The company claims the Model 01 will cover 0 to 100kmph run in just 3 seconds. It also says high-quality Samsung SDi cells in the bike will ensure a range of 200kms in full charge, without compromising on acceleration and speed.
Emflux Model 01 will also boast of premium cycle parts. These will include Brembo brakes and Ohlins suspension while a single-sided swingarm will lend proper everyday sports bike look. The 7-inch touch TFT display will give information related to GPS navigation, real-time vehicle diagnostics, auto updates, mobile App and Bike to Bike connectivity. In addition, the electric superbike will get Continental dual-channel Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) working in tandem with regenerative braking.
The Emflux Model 01 is set to go on sale New Delhi, Bengaluru and Mumbai in the initial phase. It is expected to be priced between Rs 5 and Rs 6 lakh.
