The 2018 Indian Wells also known as the 2018 BNP Paribas Open is the first ATP World Tour Masters 1000 of the calendar year. It will take place from March 8 to March 18 in Indian Wells, California.
Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic have won the tournament on five occasions and the duo are holding the top spot for more number of titles in Indian Wells. The Swiss tennis ace has continued his impressive form of 2017 in 2018.
He won the Australian Open and the Rotterdam Open this year. By winning the first Grand Slam event of 2018, he became the first men's athlete to win 20 Grand Slam titles. The second success in Holland was also remarkable.
Federer became the new world No.1 after reaching the semi-final of the 2018 Rotterdam Open. He won the tournament after defeating Marin Cilic in the final. The 36-year-old eclipsed Rafael Nadal at the top of the ATP rankings.
Meanwhile, Djokovic will also return from injury at the ATP Masters event this week. The Serbian was on the sidelines after the former world No.1 was forced to undergo a medical procedure in February. He has now recovered in time and will be looking to chase his sixth title in Indian Wells.
India's Yuki Bhambri defeated Ramkumar Ramanathan in the final qualifying round to seal a berth in the main draw of the 2018 BNP Paribas Open. A straight sets 6-4, 6-2 victory over his compatriot saw the India's top-ranked player to play in the Masters.
