Atletico de Kolkata are the defending champions of the Indian Super League (ISL) and they will be looking forward to retain the coveted trophy in the second edition of the tournament.
IBTimes India takes you down the memory lane through some fascinating strikes by the Atletico de Kolkata players in ISL 2014 on their journey to the title in the inaugural edition.
A lot of names would haphazardly come in our minds, but few of them would prominently shine like stars in the dark sky.
Luis Garcia would top the chart in that case as he was the man who almost single-handedly guided the team with his composure and skills into the final. The former Liverpool player scored five goals in ISL 2014, but one against North East United FC was certainly the best as it ended the deadlock and gave Atletico de Kolkata three crucial points. Garcia headed the ball into the top right corner of the net perfectly diverting a pass from Jofre from the left flank.
Next on the list will be Baljit Sahni's goal against Mumbai City FC in an away match. At this juncture, Antonio Habas's men had lost the momentum and they were trying hard to secure a place in the semi-final stage. A well scripted goal, as one might term it to be. A calm grounded free-kick from Borja Fernandez that came to Garcia and the latter guided the ball into the penalty box to Sahni's feet and he scored.
The third one in this list of special goals should go to Cavin Lobo, as without his strike Kolkata would not have inched closer to the final four of the ISL 2014. The match between FC Goa and Atletico de Kolkata was about to end in stalemate. That is what it looked like until the 84th minute of the game when it was being played at a frenetic pace. Fernandez floated the ball inside the penalty box and Lobo received it on his chest and after that he had ample time to blast the ball past the goalkeeper into the top of the net.
Garcia was instrumental in designing a number of goals scored by Atletico de Kolkata. And the fourth one on the list, which also can be referred to as the second best goal for the Kolkata-based franchise in ISL 2014, was scored by Fikru from a terrific volley that zoomed past the North East United FC goalkeeper. Garcia ornamented a chip pass onto Fikru's chest and he converted the chance.
The best of the lot and it indeed was screamer of a goal from Fernandez and it was scored against Mumbai City FC in the opening game of ISL 2014. Fernandez blasted a volley into the top left corner of the net.
Here are top five goals from Atletico de Kolkata from ISL 2014.
