Picking up the perfect players who can bring stability to defence is easy enough for veteran Italy defender Marco Materazzi, and the World Cup winner has exercised his experience once more by roping in Brazilian defender Eder Monteiro Fernandes for Chennaiyin FC, with an eye to the Indian Super League 2015.
The 31-year-old defensive rock is expected to be the defensive rock, according to Materazzi, and Eder, who earlier plied his trade with Brazil outfit Vasco Da Gama, is looking forward to bringing his experience as he gets ready to get on the field for the ISL side.
And playing with the likes of former Paris St-Germain defender Bernard Mendy and Materazzi, along with a host of other Indian defenders, will be an experience in itself at Chennaiyin FC.
"He [Eder] has immense experience having played in various leagues of Europe and currently is at an age where centre backs peak and thus will add plenty of quality and solidarity to our backline," Materazzi, 41, said.
"Eder will also be a good guide for the Indian players and I have full faith in him to have a fantastic ISL."
Prominent Indian players such as Abhishek Das, Dhanachandra Singh, Mehrajuddin Wadoo, Lalhmangaihsanga Ralte, Justin Stephen and more are part of the Chennaiyin defence, and they will be very keen to learn from the overseas defender.
Eder, who has never picked up a senior national team cap, played for Cyprus top flight side Nea Salamis Famagusta, before making his move to India.
He has mentioned that there is a certain "buzz" about the ISL, and he is very keen on experiencing it hands-on this time.
"I am delighted to have joined Chennaiyin FC. There was a buzz about the Indian Super League globally last year so I am really looking forward to be a part of it this time," the Brazilian said.
"Chennaiyin already have some top players like Elano and Mendy and it will also be great to be working with the Indian players of the team. I will bring my experience of playing in other leagues of Europe but would also get to learn a lot by playing under the legendary Marco Materazzi."
On Chennaiyin's performances last year, he added: "Last year Chennaiyin were one of the most consistent teams of the league and this time I will do everything to make them champions."
