Indian Super League outfit FC Pune City have roped-in former Stoke City and Bolton forward Tuncay Sanli, and the former Turkey international is the latest addition to the star-studded attacking line of the Pune-based ISL franchise.
David Platt's side already have Romanian star and former Chelsea striker Adrian Mutu at their disposal, as well as Costa Rican striker Yendrick Ruiz. And the latest addition is set to brighten the Pune attacking front further.
Tuncay, 33, last played for Qatar Stars League outfit Umm Salal, where he scored 11 goals in 24 appearances. The Turkish striker, regarded as a Fenerbahce legend, won the Super Lig – Turkish top-flight – on three occasions, and he is also perhaps best remembered for his hat-trick against Manchester United in a UEFA Champions League game in 2004.
Tuncay is also second on the all-time list of goalscorers for Turkey.
With 22 goals in 79 games, Tuncay is only second to Hakan Sukur.
The 33-year-old played a starring role in Turkey's third-place finish in the 2003 Confederations Cup, while also helping his country reach the semifinals of Euro 2008.
The former Middlesbrough and Wolfsburg striker's versatility -- he can play in midfield as well as in attack -- will please Platt, as FC Pune City go into the new season eyeing the ISL title.
The other overseason players at FC Pune City include English trio Nicky Shorey, Steve Simonsen, and James Bailey and former Tottenham midfielder Didier Zokora. The AC Milan defender Cristian Zaccardo is also reportedly close to joining Pune.
