Former Liverpool and Norwegian star John Arne Riise, who will be sporting the Delhi Dynamos jersey for the forthcoming Indian Super League (ISL) 2015, stated at an event in Mumbai that he wants to help Indian football to grow globally.
Riise, who chose Delhi Dynamos over Kerala Blasters in a last minute decision, wants to share his experience with the Indian footballers in the side and also hopes that the Delhi franchise will go all the way in the ISL 2015.
"What I did for other clubs around the globe I want to do the same thing here. I want to score more goals and win the ISL for my team. I love to take challenges and I hope I will help Indian football grow in world stage. We have more options in Europe and here it is less, so I think the Indian players must grab this opportunity very well," Riise told reporters at an event in Mumbai.
Riise also went on to laud the talent of the Indian players and said that they have the ability to do better. He also extended his support during Delhi Dynamos's pre-season sojourn in Sweden.
"I think Indian players have to be tough and not be shy. In the international level guys are tough and hard. Indian players are a talented bunch but they need to get rid of the two aspects," Riise added.
Riise's ex-Liverpool teammate and also a legend, Steven Gerrard wished him good luck before the former set off for the new challenge in his career. "Gerrard and I are close friends. Like when he went to LA Galaxy I wished him. He too wished me when I came to ISL. He was a bit surprised why I was coming to India but after knowing the reason, he said to me all the best," Riise said.
