If everything falls in place, either French football giant Thierry Henry or Spanish legend Raul Gonzalez could well be on their way to play in the Indian Super League (ISL) 2015.
A source close to ISL defending champions Atletico de Kolkata has said that former Arsenal star Henry and former Real Madrid star Gonzalez have been zeroed in to be the marquee player of the side ahead of the second edition of the league.
However, others names have also been added to the list.
"A lot of names are there at our disposal with Raul and Henry being two of them. There's still some time to finalise the marquee player. We don't want to rush things," the ATK insider was quoted as saying by Indian daily The Telegraph.
Spanish playmaker Luis Garcia was the marquee player of the Kolkata-based outfit in the previous edition of the ISL. Although the former Liverpool man was remarkable with his performances in ISL 2014, he has not been retained by ATK yet for the upcoming edition.
Not willing to rush things, the source confirmed that the franchisee officials will discuss the matter with team head coach Antonio Habas to select the ideal player.
"Rather, we will sit with Antonio Lopez Habas and other members of the coaching staff to select someone who could be an ideal, or even better, replacement for Luis Garcia," the source added.
Czech striker Milan Baros and former Arsenal star Andrey Arshavin have also been mooted as possible names to join the defending ISL champions this summer.
Meanwhile, former Indian cricket skipper Sourav Ganguly is looking ahead to attending the ISL Player Auctions in Mumbai on 10 July. India international Sunil Chhetri will be the main highlight of the auction on the day. Ganguly is expected to keep an eye on the talisman, just like the rest.
Speaking about his team, the ATK co-owner mentioned that the ISL side is stronger than last season and the progress has been smooth.
"I would attend the draft in Mumbai. Our team this season is stronger than the last time. We're going in the right direction, hope to continue the good show of last season," Sourav told PTI.
Commenting on the status of the un-announced marquee player of ATK for the 2015 edition of the ISL, Ganguly said, "We have shortlisted four-five names and after discussing with Habas, we will announce the name."
It has been learnt that ATK are keen to rope in Mohun Bagan goalkeeper Debjit Majumder besides a host of other local players, in the domestic player auction on Friday.
Majumder was impressive in the 2014-15 season with the I-League champions.
