India thrashed Zimbabwe by 10 wickets in the third and final ODI at the Harare Sports Club on Wednesday. Yet again it was a poor day in the field for the hosts as they let MS Dhoni & co. rule the roost.
India needed just 124 runs to complete the series clean-sweep and they did it in style. KL Rahul and debutant Faiz Fazal completed the run chase with 28.1 overs to spare.
Rahul scored yet another half-century in the series and remained unbeaten on 63runs from 70 balls till the end. Fazal became the third Indian opening batsman to score more than 50 runs in the debut ODI match after Robin Uthappa and KL Rahul. The left-handed opening batsman also stayed unbeaten on 55 from 61 balls.
This was India's first whitewash in ODIs under the captaincy of MS Dhoni away from home and he will be feeling good about it as he achieved the feat with a second string side.
India yet again came up with an all-round performance against Zimbabwe on Wednesday. Apart from one or two mis-fieldings, India always looked in control of the match.
Earlier, Graeme Cremer had won the toss and decided to bat first. They thought that they will make proper use of the conditions and restrict the Indian bowlers from running through their batting order.
They actually lost just one wicket in the first 10 overs compared to the previous two matches, where they threw their wickets away in a hurry.
When things were not working well for Indian bowlers, MS Dhoni introduced Yuzvendra Chahal into the attack and he delivered for his captain again.
Chamu Chibhabha and Vusi Sibanda were the only two Zimbabwean batsmen who showed some sort of resistance. At one stage Zimbabwe were 89 for the loss of three wickets, from they were reduced to 110 for nine in just a matter of time.
Jasprit Bumrah yet again shone with the ball as he picked up yet another four-wicket haul. Chahal also picked up a couple of wickets as well. Axar Patel and Dhawal Kulkarni bagged one wicket each.
