India were made to work for their victory by South Africa, with Hashim Amla and Faf Du Plessis resisting the spinners quite well on Day 3 of the third Test at the VCA Stadium in Nagpur, before Amit Mishra finally broke through with a couple of leg-spin rippers, and R Ashwin found his ticket back on the wicket-train again.
Ashwin picked up two wickets in the first session, but that was all she wrote for India in the morning, as Amla and Du Plessis batted extremely well to take South Africa to Lunch.
For the bulk of the second session as well, the two batsmen frustrated the bowlers, before Mishra, finally sending Amla back, and then doing the same to Du Plessis as well.
Ashwin then finished off the match in style, to seal victory for India by 124 runs and with it the Freedom Series 2-0.
The most exciting aspect of the first session was the wicket of AB De Villiers, with Ashwin getting the brilliant batsman from South Africa for just nine.
When De Villiers walked out following the wicket of Dean Elgar, the excitement in the crowd lifted up a few notches. There were quite a few chants of "ABD, ABD" going around as well, and the signs for India looked ominous as the great man went about picking off runs like only he can.
Even in that short stay of 21 balls, De Villiers showed what might have been, scoring a nice boundary over the top off Ravindra Jadeja's bowling.
However, Ashwin is a master of his craft at the moment and a carom ball completely caught the best batsman in the world off guard. Expecting an off-spinner, De Villiers played inside the line of the ball and could do nothing but walk back as the ball hit him right in front of the stumps.
From there, it was wonderful and atrritional Test match cricket, as Amla and Du Plessis weathered the storm quite brilliantly.
