The much-awaited India-South Africa series is just a little more than a fortnight away and the excitement levels are on the rise. The fans are eager to know the players who will be featuring in the Team India squad against the Proteas.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have confirmed that the selectors will be announcing the Twenty20 (T20) and the ODI squads on 20th September, Sunday.
The intention of the selectors is quite clear. India A are currently playing a three-match ODI series against Bangladesh A and they would want to pick some of the young talents.
India A have thrashed Bangladesh A by 97 runs in the first ODI of the three-match series, courtesy a stellar all-round performance from Gurkeerat Singh Mann. Gurkeerat scored 65 runs and also picked up five wickets. Sanju Samson, Rishi Dhawan and Mayank Agarwal have also been handy with their willows. The selectors are having a closer look at the young talents during the series and will announce the Team India T20 and ODI squads on Sunday.
"The meeting of the All-India Senior Selection Committee of the BCCI will be held on Sunday, the 20th of September 2015, at 12pm at Hotel JW Marriot (UB City), Bengaluru, to select the Indian teams for the upcoming T20 Internationals (three matches) and One Day Internationals (Five matches) against South Africa," a media release from BCCI said on Wednesday.
The selection committee will also announce the names of the Board President's XI players who will play the only T20 practice match against Proteas at the Palam Cricket Ground, in New Delhi on 29 September.
The question still remains, whether Virat Kohli will be handed the captaincy for the ODI series as well or not. The rumours have been spreading thick and fast but we will have to wait and watch until Sunday to see who the selection committee thinks should be at the helm of Team India in the 50-over format.
