Parthiv Patel will get another opportunity in Test match cricket, with Wriddhiman Saha yet to recover fully from his injury. Parthiv played his first Test match in eight years in the Mohali game against England and impressed with the bat.
Parthiv was drafted in for the third Test after Saha suffered a thigh strain while playing in the second Test match, which India won, in Visakhapatnam.
The Gujarat captain made 42 and 67 not out in his two innings in the third Test in Mohali, after being asked to open the innings with Murali Vijay, owing to KL Rahul's late withdrawal through injury.
While Parthiv impressed with the willow, he was not quite as good with the gloves, dropping a few catches, including a costly one off Jonny Bairstow. India might have gone on to win the Test match in Mohali, but Virat Kohli will expect better wicketkeeping from Parthiv, who did pull off one stunning catch, low down which got Bairstow out in the second innings.
"Parthiv Patel will continue to be part of the Indian Test team for the 4th Test of the five-match Paytm Test Series to be held in Mumbai from December 8, 2016," BCCI said in a release.
"The BCCI medical team has confirmed that wicket-keeper Wriddhiman Saha is still recuperating from the strain in his left thigh, which he sustained during the second Test match at Vizag.
"As a precautionary measure, Saha has been advised rest. The BCCI medical team is monitoring the wicketkeeper batsman's progress."
Ishant Sharma has been released, with the fast bowler getting married on Friday. Ishant failed to get into the playing XI in any first three Test matches.
Having missed the New Zealand series with Chikungunya, Ishant was picked for the Test matches against England, only to see Mohammed Shami and Umesh Yadav preferred over the experienced pacer.
Ishant will now hope to get back into his fast bowling groove for Delhi, once his celebrations are complete, before targeting a return to the India team when they play Test matches against Australia and Bangladesh.
