The fifth and final Test match between India and England will take place as scheduled in Chennai, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed on Monday. A cloud of uncertainty arose over the fate of the match after former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa's death last week.
Seven days of mourning were observed across Tamil Nadu over the former AIADMK supremo's death, but that will not affect the match scheduled for a December 16 start at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
"India vs England 5th Test will take place in Chennai, Tamil Nadu (TN) Sports authority is keen on hosting it. No changes as of now," IPL chairman Rajeev Shukla told ANI on Monday.
Earlier, a Ranji Trophy match between Jharkhand and Odisha, scheduled for last Wednesday at the NPR College Ground in Tamil Nadu's Dindigul district, was rescheduled due to Jayalalithaa's death.
Virat Kohli's India have already won the five-match series 3-0 after the completion of four Test matches. Chennai lad and current India cricket team superstar R Ashwin, who has been nothing but sensational in the Test series so far, also tweeted that he is looking forward to his home test.
Ashwin has a total of 247 wickets from 43 Test matches.
