India's KL Rahul might not have scored huge runs in the series, but the right-hander showed his class en route to his magical century in the fifth Test against England in Chennai. Rahul scored his fourth Test ton, which was filled with some positive shots on Sunday.
It was not only Rahul, who batted beautifully, but also opening partner Parthiv Patel looking in good control of their batting. Rahul and Patel, who started India's innings on Day 3 with 60 for the loss of no wickets, looked good in the morning, playing brilliant shots all around the wickets to complete their century stand as well.
They scored runs at a quick rate, which was keeping the crowd in Chennai entertained as there were plenty of fours and sixes in the first session. The pair was playing the spinner as well as the pacers with decent ease, but Patel, while going for an aerial shot, top edged the ball for an easy catch to Jos Buttler.
The left-hander, who had to the open the innings with regular opener Murali Vijay suffering a shoulder injury, did his job brilliant giving India a solid start. He scored 71 runs, which comprised 71 runs from 112 balls including seven hits to the fence.
Parthiv's wicket was quite unfortunate for India as they lost their wicket just a few overs before lunch, but that did not deter Rahul from continuing his impressive batting at the middle. It was in the post-lunch session, where they also lost the wicket of Cheteshswara Pujara, that the talented right-hander completed a brilliant ton after running in an overthrow.
India will love to see Rahul bat throughout the day with some strong support from other batsmen including Kohli and help the home team inch closer to England's first innings score.
