India weren't expected to conquer the Old Blighty but Virat Kohli's team were looking good to at least pose a strong challenge to the hosts in the longest format of the game.

However, India have been outplayed in the first two Tests are a defeat away from losing the ongoing five-Test series. Despite arriving in the United Kingdom early, the Asian giants have struggled due to the lack of red-ball practice.

While they were outplayed by 63 runs in Edgbaston, Lord's defeat — by a margin of an innings and 159 runs — came as a big dampener to the visitors' spirits.

Captain Kohli and coach Ravi Shastri have come under fire as there have been some questionable selection calls and assessment of the conditions at both Edgbaston and Lord's.

India are expected to make some wholesale changes to the playing XI for the Trent Bridge Test. Fit-again Jasprit Bumrah is likely to play his first Test on English soil, replacing Kuldeep Yadav, who played as the second spinner at Lord's.

Meanwhile, 20-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant is expected to replace out-of-form Dinesh Karthik. Focus will also be on Murali Vijay as the Tamil Nadu opener received a pair at Lord's.

Shastri had warned against ruling out an Indian comeback in the Test series while speaking to the media on Thursday. The visitors need to take inspiration from the way they had fought back in the final Test of a three-match series in South Africa earlier this year after losing the first two to the Proteas.

On the other hand, England will be hoping to make use of the winning momentum and seal the series in Trent Bridge — a venue where their lead pace-bowling duo of James Anderson and Stuart Broad has enjoyed a lot of success.

The hosts have dropped Sam Curran, who won the man of the match at Edgbaston, to accommodate Ben Stokes after the all-rounder returned to the squad after being cleared of affray charges.
