Young opener Prithvi Shaw has been ruled out of the ongoing Test series against Australia after he failed to recover from the injury he sustained in Sydney during the warmup match.
The teen sensation, who blazed a breezy 60 in the warmup match, landed awkwardly on his ankle while looking to take a catch in the deep during the aforementioned practice match and had to be carried off the field.
Shaw had made a smashing start to his Test career as he blazed away to a whirlwind hundred on debut against the Windies last month. It was expected that he would be India's X-factor in the series against Australia as the pitches Down Under would suit his style of play.
Karnataka batsman Mayank Agarwal has been roped in as his replacement as the Indian batting order has struggled to get going primarily because of openers' batting woes. Both Murali Vijay and KL Rahul have looked out of sorts and this has exposed the middle order to the new ball which has been detrimental to India's cause in the two Tests so far.
Hardik Pandya also included
Meanwhile, Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya will also be travelling to Australia to join the squad after proving his fitness in a first-class game against Mumbai earlier this week.
Although, India's bowlers have been brilliant in the matches so far, the tail has been long and it has been exposed in both the matches. As such, the inclusion of Pandya makes a lot of sense as Kohli can use him as a bowler and a lower order batsman in the upcoming Test matches.
Pandya proved his fitness for Baroda by picking up 5 wickets and scoring 73 runs.
Finally Mayank Agarwal after all his domestic hardwork gets a chance in the national team ?

This is bad, really bad for Indian Cricket. We have huge problem with the opening slot and needed Prithvi badly. Wish him a speedy recovery. But great to see Mayank given his much deserved chance. Best wishes to him. Have to see who will be the opening pair?

Very Sad news for Prithvi and Good Chance for Mayank because opening slot in Tests is big problem for us.

I wish @mayankcricket should solve this problem.
Best of luck for him, @BCCI & @imVkohli Sir.
