The Indian hockey team dished out an impressive performance against New Zealand in their final match of the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup 2017 tournament in Malaysia, which they definitely wished they could display on Friday against Malaysia.
Playing the hockey match to finish for the 3/4th position, Roelant Oltmans' Indian army recorded a 4-0 win against the Black Sticks (New Zealand hockey team) on Saturday May 6, to clinch the bronze medal from the tournament.
Two goals from Rupinder Pal Singh, wonderfully drag-flicked from penalty corners, in the second quarter of the match, gave the four-time Sultan Azlan Shah Cup champions the much-needed boost going ahead in the match.
The icing on the cake for India was decorated by birthday boy SV Sunil, in the fourth quarter of the match, as he scored a wonderful field goal.
That was not all, Indian hockey team skipper Manpreet Singh and Talwinder Singh combined beautifully from the right flank, right at the death, and the latter's subtle shot on goal finally made the scoreline 4-0 in favour of India.
The bronze medal was right there.
