India may not have been able to collect any medal at the Rio Olympics so far, but Day 4 proved to be good for the athletes. Archer Atanu Das was brilliant, reaching the pre-quarters while the men's hockey team clinched a fantastic win over Argentina. Boxer Vikas Krishan also emerged victorious in his first bout.
However, India's poor performance in the shooting event continued, with Heena Sindhu failing to reach the finals of the 25m pistol event. Rower Dattu Bhokanal also crashed out of the Games.
Atanu got India's day to a great start, defeating Nepal's Jitbahadur Muktan 6-0, and then later turned up the heat to get the better of Cuba's Adrian Andres Perez 6-4. Atanu looked a confident archer in both the matches, but he faces a tough opponent, South Korean Lee Seung-yun, in the next round. But if the archer maintains his form, the Indian has a huge chance of finishing with a medal.
The hockey team, which lost a close match against Germany, played some wonderful hockey to defeat Argentina 2-1 in their third match of the competition. This victory has helped them inch closer to the quarterfinals. Chinglensana Singh and Kothajit Singh were the two goal scorers for India.
Argentina did pose some serious problems in the final quarter of the match, but India's defence stood firm to withstand the barrage of attacks. Goalkeeper PR Sreejesh should be applauded for his amazing performance in the last 15 minutes, where he made some amazing saves to help India win the match.
Out of the three Indian boxers who have qualified for Rio Olympics, Krishan was in action against Charles Conwell, who was making his Olympics debut. The Indian pugilist defeated his opponent 3-0 to set up a pre-quarters clash against Onder Sipal of Turkey.
Fans now hope that the athletes participating on Day 5 of Rio Olympics will shine, and bring glory to the nation.
