Thiruvananthapuram/ Poonch, May 01 (ANI): Trade unions across India hailed International Labour Day on Thursday and raised voice against unjust treatment meted out to workers in the country. Workers in Thiruvananthapuram city of Kerala held red flags and banners, beat drums and marched on the streets to spread the message of strength and unity among workers. The unions demanded more salary, more power and more perks for the workers on this day. The Labour Day was organised in India for the first time in Chennai in 1923 during which the red flag was used for the first time in the country. Meanwhile, employees in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir gathered to commemorate the labourers who lost their lives in Chicago fighting for the rights of their fellow labourers.
