Ashish Nehra marked his return to the India team after a long wait of five years in the recent tour of Australia. With some impressive performances in the T20 series against Australia, the veteran left-armer managed to impress the BCCI selectors.
As a result, Nehra has been included in the India T20 squad for the ongoing Sri Lanka series, Asia Cup T20 2016 and, mpst importantly, the ICC World T20 2016.
Nehra has worked really hard to earn his place in this Indian team, which has a mix of young and experienced players.
And now, he has a wish which he wants to fulfill real soon. Nehra wants to win the ICC World T20 2016 for India. Not to forget, Nehra played an important role when India lifted the ICC 50-over World Cup for the second time, in 2011.
"It is a great feeling to play in any World Cup, and especially when you are playing in India. Hopefully, we can win it this time," Nehra was quoted as saying by BCCI's official website.
"Whoever plays domestic cricket, their goal is to play for India. For me, playing for India after a gap of five years is an amazing feeling."
Nehra came into limelight with a brilliant performance in IPL 2015 for the Chennai Super Kings, and that too under the leadership of MS Dhoni. The Delhi southpaw picked up 22 wickets in 16 matches at an average of 20.40 and was one of the highest wickettakers in the tournament.
Dhoni used him to bowl during the opening as well as death overs. Nehra can bowl those wide yorkers and in-swinging deliveries which are extremely difficult to score off. The 36-year old is confident about doing the same for Team India in these upcoming big-ticket tournaments.
"I would love to do that job. Those are tough overs to bowl, and if the captain wants me to bowl in the first six and final overs, that means I am bowling well. I have done that in the IPL under the same captain," Nehra, who was picked up by the Sunrisers Hyderabad for Rs 5.5 crore in the IPL 2016 Auction last Saturday, added.
