India were looking to win the Junior Hockey World Cup title for the second time heading into this match as Belgium were making an appearance in the finals for the first time in their history.
India started the first half in superb form moving the ball quickly and it caught Belgium by surprise as they were not able to handle the early pressure from India. The hosts had a chance to take an early lead from a penalty corner but they messed it up. After a lot of early possession and lot of pressure from India, they finally got the breakthrough in the 10th minute after Gurjant Singh controlled a superb long ball and fired a thunderous strike past the Belgium keeper.
After India dominated the first 15 minutes of the game, Belgium slowly started to settle in, putting a few passes together but despite that India continued to put a lot of pressure on Belgium, not allowing them a lot of time on the ball and forcing them to misplace their passes and this led to India second goal. India got their second goal in the 22nd minute after Belgium lost possession cheaply in their own half as Simranjeet Singh fired a low shot past the Belgium defence to give India a 2-0 lead.
Belgium started the second half much better than the first half, moving the ball really quickly and not giving India any time to settle in. As the match continued, Belgium took control of the game and with India already having a 2-0 lead, they were happy to sit back and absorb the pressure from Belgium. India were sitting back and were relying on the counter attack to increase their lead. India did have a chance to make it 3-0 midway in the second half from a penalty corner but their shot was fired way over the goal post. With Belgium controlling the game a lot in the second half, India started to slow the game down whenever they got the chance.
Belgium had a chance to reduce the deficit but they shot straight at India's keeper, who made a superb save. Belgium continued to dominate possession as the second half progressed but were still unable to find a way past India's strong defence.
India had a chance to put the game to bed in the closing stages of the second half from a penalty corner but Varun's shot was straight at the Belgium keeper. With just four minutes remaining, Belgium got on a runner keeper. Despite that, they continued to keep possession but were still not able to find a way past India's sturdy defence.
With less than a minute left, Belgium had a succession of penalties corners and they finally managed to convert one as Van Bockrijck Fabrice fired a shot straight in the top corner. This was the last action of the game as India finally won the Junior Hockey World Cup.
India's 15-year wait for a Junior Hockey World cup title finally came to an end after a superb attacking display in the first half followed by a superb defensive display in the second half.
