In relation to the Sherin Mathews case, India has decided to revoke the Overseas Citizenship of India cards or the OCI cards for Sherin Mathews' adoptive parents, Wesley and Sini Mathews and some of their relatives and friends in the United States including Wesley Mathews' parents.
Three-year-old Sherin Mathews' decomposing body was found in a culvert in Dallas, Texas on October 22.
The Consul General of India in Houston, Anupam Ray said that they were cancelling their OCI because the travel of these people was not in the public interest of the citizens of India, according to The Hindu.
Manoj N Abraham and Nissy T Abraham, the Mathews' friends were the first ones to receive notices regarding the cancelling of their OCI. This is being challenged in the Delhi High Court.
"It has come to the knowledge of the Consulate through diplomatic and privileged sources that Manoj Abraham and Nissy T Abraham have been in close contact with the adoptive parents of Sherin Mathews before, during and after the murder."
Mr. Ray went on to say that the Indian Consulate would recommend the Indian government to blacklist the names as soon as possible.
About the case
Wesley and Sini Mathews reported that their adopted daughter Sherin went missing.
Initially, Wesley said that Sherin went missing after she was made to stand out of her house at 3 am as a punishment for not drinking her milk. Further investigations revealed that the family car left the house at 4 am and came back at 5 am in the morning Sherin went missing. Welsey confessed that Sherin choked on her milk and died.
Wesley then was charged with capital murder and tampering with evidence while Sini Mathews was indicted for abandoning a child.
Sini's lawyer has withdrawn from the case due to non-payment. She is in Dallas county jail with a $250,000 bond. Wesley, due to his charges, initially had a $1million bond but it was decreased to $500,000 in August.
