Volvo Cars Group unveiled the new S90 flagship sedan which will replace the current S80 sedan in India and abroad. The S90 features a completely new design language of the Swedish brand which debuted with the XC90 SUV.
The face of the sedan is highlighted with the square shaped grille with many vertical slats. The grille is flanked by the Thor's Hammer inspired signature LED headlight which is first seen in the XC9O. The side profile of the S90 says the car is longer than the S80 and the C-pillar is curvier like the coupe models. The rear of the car gets an all new design in which the C -shaped taillamps are the star attraction.
The immediate release of the S90 pictures are reportedly due to leaked images over the internet. Hence, many of the technical details are reserved for its public unveiling scheduled at the Detroit Auto Show 2016 in January.
Volvo has indicated that the new S90 will be available with three engine options - T5, T6, and T8. The company also informed a clean and powerful T8 twin engine plug-in hybrid powertrain and one of the most luxurious interiors along with the connected infotainment systems in the S90. The flagship sedan is also based on the Scalable Product Architecture as the XC90.
Volvo, the car brand known for safety features, has loaded the S90 with many safety options. The sedan comes with an advanced semi-autonomous drive feature christened as Pilot Assist. The system gives steering inputs to keep the car properly aligned within lane markings in the highways. The car is also equipped with animal detection, a technology that offers warning and brake support to help avoid a collision with animals day or night.
Volvo India has planned to launch seven new cars for India in 2016 and S90 is one among them. The car will be pitted against the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, BMW 5 Series and Audi A6 in India.
