Utility vehicle major Jeep launched the Renegade compact SUV in the global markets from 2014. The smallest SUV in the portfolio remained unchanged for over four years and Jeep is set to give much need TLC soon. The global debut of new Renegade is expected in late 2018 while the spy images of the purported model have been leaked online.
Arguably the first spy image of the 2019 Jeep Renegade has been taken from South America where the preliminary testing of the SUV in full swing. The test mule is not fully camouflaged and that indicates the basic silhouette will not go under the knife.
The face and rear of the SUV will get comprehensive styling update and spy image indicates that will be in line with the original Jeep Renegade, a version of the CJ3 which was sold back in the 1970s. The SUV will retain signature seven-slat grille while it will be tweaked in line with the recently unveiled 2018 Jeep Wrangler. The grill will be more raked for better aerodynamics.
At the rear, new Renegade will come with redesigned tail-lamp design including new LED inserts and a chunkier design for its rear bumper. There is no image of the interior available at the moment. The new steering wheel and contemporary layout in the interior can be expected.
On the sidelines of the ongoing 2017 Los Angeles Auto Show, Jeep's chief executive officer Mike Manley has confirmed new product for India. The model in question is expected to be the new Jeep Renegade and it will be priced around Rs 10 lakh in India.
The India-spec new Renegade is expected to draw power from 1.4-litre MultiAir turbo petrol and 2.0-litre MultiJet diesel mills. Mulitple reports also claim Jeep India may plonk 1.6-litre MultiJet diesel engine. Jeep already sells the Compass with this engine in some global markets. An export spec Compass, powered by 1.6-litre diesel engine, has also spotted in India recently. The mill is expected to develop 120hp in the Renegade.
