India clinched the 3-match Test series against West Indies by beating the visitors by an innings and 15 runs on the fourth day of the second test at Eden Gardens on Thursday. India now lead the series 2-0.
Made to follow-on after being bowled out for 153 in the first innings, West Indies put up a strong fightback in the second innings with Darren Bravo slamming a convincing 136 runs. His partnership with Chanderpaul (108) and Marlon Samuels (132) gave the team some hope. However, they were dismissed for 463 runs on the fourth day with more than four sessions to spare
After putting up a mammoth score of 631 runs on the board in the first innings with Rahul Dravid, VVS Laxman and Mahendra Singh Dhoni scoring centuries, Indian bowlers were given the task to nail WI. They did their job by bundling out the visitors on the fourth day. Pacer Umesh Yadav was the leading wicket taker with innings figure of 4/80, followed by Pragyan Ojha (2/104), R Ashwin (2/137) and Ishant Sharma (2/95).
India and West Indies will now play the third and the final test in Mumbai on November 22.
