The first trailer of "Independence Day: Resurgence," sequel to 1996 science fiction disaster movie "Independence Day," is out. Even though it has been confirmed that Will Smith will not be in the movie, it seems he may make a cameo as there are possible hints throughout the trailer.
As mentioned in the trailer, Smith's character in the movie, Steven Hiller, was killed during a test flight of an alien hybrid fighter due to an unknown malfunction.
However, even though Hiller's death strengthened the relationship between his widow Jasmine Dubro-Hiller (Vivica A. Fox) and their son, Dylan (Jessie Usher), it seems there is an unknown mystery behind his death that is still unanswered.
Though there are no direct references, it seems that the mystery behind Hiller's death is kept a secret for a reason and there is every possibility that Smith may make a cameo in the upcoming movie. It may occur either as a flashback scene or to be more hopeful, as the new, revived Hiller.
Fans were disappointed when 20th Century Fox announced that Smith won't be in the sequel as his character played a pivotal role in "Independence Day" besides Jeff Goldblum.
Hence, it will be fair enough if the makers decide to make some space for at least a few minutes for Smith, as it will definitely cheer up the audience, especially those who have watched the original 1996 movie.
Besides Smith's appearance speculations, another highlight of the newly released trailer is, of course, the aliens who have attacked the earth for a second time.
It seems that this time, they have arrived with a much huge army than the previous attack and their technologies have also significantly enhanced than the last time.
Besides Goldblum, Bill Pullman, Judd Hirsch, Vivica A. Fox and Brent Spiner reprise their original roles, along with newcomers Liam Hemsworth, Jessie Usher, Maika Monroe, Sela Ward, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Joey King, Angelababy and William Fichtner.
"Independence Day: Resurgence" is all set to hit the big screens across the globe on 24 June, 2016. Click below to the watch the first trailer.
