The taxman has come calling to coal baron and former BJP leader G Janardhana Reddy, days after the lavish wedding of his daughter led to huge uproar across India, which is in the middle of a currency crisis.
According to an ANI update, the Income Tax (I-T) Department on Monday conducted a raid at the offices of the Obulapuram Mining Company (OMCPL) in Bellary in the Hubballi district of Karnataka. The action comes in the aftermath of an activist lodging a complaint with the department following the wedding, although it is not clear at this moment whether the complaint and the raid are related.
Multiple queries sent by International Business Time, India, to the I-T Department — both in Bellary and Bengaluru — did not elicit a confirmation of the raid.

What is OMCPL?
The Obulapuram Mining Company is a private limited firm co-owned by Janardhana Reddy with his brothers Karunakara Reddy and Somashekara Reddy. It is spread across the neighbouring states of Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.
The company has been under probe for quite some time now over charges of illegal mining, which also embroiled Janardhana Reddy and led to his arrest. It has also seen its mining licences cancelled.
