Manchester City have completed the signing of Ilkay Gundogan from Borussia Dortmund on a four-year deal. The Premier League club are reported to have paid the Germans around £20m ($28.8m) for the highly-rated midfielder, who is Pep Guardiolas first signing at the Etihad Stadium.
The 25-year-old will miss Euro 2016 and the start of the new Premier League season through injury, but reveals he is already looking forward to the prospect of playing under Guardiola.
Im thrilled to have signed for Manchester City, he told the clubs official website. When I learned of Citys interest my heart was set on coming here and things have moved very quickly.
Gundogan has been linked with a number of Premier League clubs in recent years, including Liverpool and Citys eternal rivals Manchester United. However, he admitted the chance to play for Guardiolas swayed his decision.
The opportunity to work with a coach like Pep Guardiola is something I am really looking forward to and I am flattered to be the first signing the club has made this summer, he said after signing for City.
I can promise the City fans I will give everything to help us win titles both in England and the Champions League. These are exciting times. I have my best years ahead of me and I think we can achieve great things together. I cant wait to begin this new chapter in my career.
