The makers of the movie "Udta Punjab" have released its second song, titled "Ikk Kudi." Sung by Diljit Dosanjh, "Ikk Kudi" marks the singing debut of the Punjabi actor in Bollywood. Diljit is also making his acting debut in Bollywood with "Udta Punjab."
Composed by Amit Trivedi, "Ikk Kudi" is a slow Punjabi song that directly touches the heart. The video of the track shows Alia Bhatt, an aspiring hockey player, struggling to get her first chance to showcase her talent and how she eventually gets one. It also features Diljit in the video. Another song from the movie, "Chitta Ve," which was released recently, had won instant favour with listeners.
"Ikk Kudi" is an adapted version of a poem by the same name, written by the late Shiv Kumar Batalvi. Diljit has till now given several hit Punjabi tracks, like "Proper Patola," "Tung Tung Baje," and "Pagg Wala Munda."
Expressing his excitement for having sung "Ikk Kudi," Diljit said in a statement: "I was extremely glad to know that Shri Shiv Kumar Batalvi's poem 'Ikk Kudi' would be featured in my debut Hindi film. And more than that I am so excited and happy that I got to sing it. It was really an experience which will always be special to me. I hope people like the song as much as I do."
Directed by Abhishek Chaubey, "Udta Punjab" features Shahid Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Diljit in lead roles. While Shahid, Alia and Kareena play a drug addict rockstar, a Bihari village girl, and a doctor, respectively, Diljit essays the role of a police officer.
Produced by Balaji Motion Pictures and Phantom Productions, "Udta Punjab" delves into the issue of drug abuse in Punjab. It is slated to be released on June 17. Check the video of the song, "Ikk Kudi" below:
