The 16th edition of the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA Awards) announced the nominations list on Tuesday.
And surprisingly, romantic movie "2 States" is leading the list with a total of nine nominations. National Award Winning film "Haider" has got eight nominations, while Rajkumar Hirani's "PK" movie, which did wonders at the box office, garnered six nominations.
Kanagana Ranaut's "Queen" has managed to garner five nominations in the popular categories.
"It is amazing how Indian cinema is growing strength by strength every year. It has been a spectacular year for Indian Cinema across genres of films and a multitude of talent on and off screen. Some of the biggest films are contending for awards this year and the nominations reflect the talent and achievements of our Indian Film Industry," Andre Timmins, Director – Wizcraft International Entertainment Pvt. Ltd, said in a statement.
Shah Rukh Khan's "Happy New Year" garnered only two nominations, while Salman Khan's "Kick" got three.
However, critically acclaimed film "Mardaani" garnered only one nomination. Rani Mukherji has been nominated in the best actress category for portraying the role of a crime branch officer in "Mardaani" movie.
