Europes largest consumer electronics show has returned to Berlin and, true to form, unleashed a bevy of smartphones, tablets and wearables, as well as TVs, AVs and kit for the connected home.
Picking through all the major announcements from the worlds biggest consumer electronics fair, weve selected the biggest and the best revelations to come out of Berlin.
1. Sony Xperia Z5
First out of the blocks was Sony, revealing its flagship Xperia Z5 smartphone line-up. Among the handsets was the Z5 Premium, the worlds first phone with a 4K screen, somehow managing to pack 8m pixels into your pocket.
2. Samsung Ultra HD Blu-Ray player
Samsung dropped the worlds first Ultra HD Blu-Ray player, finally giving early adopters something to spin on their 4K TVs.
But if the discs themselves take a while to arrive, the player – penciled to retail in early 2016 for under £350 – will also be able to stream 4K content from Streaming Video-On-Demand services including Netflix, Amazon and YouTube.
3. Samsung Gear S2
The Gear S2 ditches its predecessors curved rectangle screen in favour of a circular one which is brighter and has more pixels than some of its rivals. The Gear S2 is waterproof, has NFC for Samsung Pay contactless payments, Bluetooth for connecting to your smartphone (Android 4.4 and above with at least 1.5GB RAM), wireless charging, apps from Uber, Nike+, CNN, Volkswagen and others, and will go on sale in October.
4. Huawei Mate S
Another eagerly anticipated announcement came from Chinese manufacturer, Huawei.
The worlds third-largest smartphone-seller promised the assembled press a new era of touch and, true to its word, revealed the first smartphone to feature a Force Touch screen.
The impressive-looking Mate S handset features a 5.5-inch screen, and all-metal chassis and a finger-print sensor on the rear.
