Two of the most awaited Malayalam films of the year, Dulquer Salmaan-starrer Pattom Pole and Aashiq Abu's Idukki Gold have released on Friday.
Pattom Pole, directed by ace cinematographer-turned-director Azhagappan, has debutante Malavika Mohanan playing the female lead opposite Dulquer. Malavika is cinematographer KU Mohanan's daughter.
K Gireesh Kumar has written the script for Pattom Pole. The film has Dulquer starring in a romantic drama for the first time. He and Malavika will portray two employees in an event management company.
The story goes on about how the couple fall in love and how they have to adapt to move ahead in life. "You will see an entirely different persona of Dulquer in the film and he is going to be a top notch romantic hero," said Azhagappan. The film also has Anoop Menon and Archana Kavi playing two important roles.
Dulquer has had a dream run at the box office with all his releases doing pretty well so far. Pattom Pole is produced by Karunakaran, under the banner of Carlton Films.
Meanwhile, Idukki Gold is ace director Aashiq Abu's new film. It brings together yesteryear stars, such as Pratap Pothen, Raveendran, Babu Antony, Maniyanpilla Raju and Vijayaraghavan. Scripted by Shyam Pushkaran and Dileesh Nair, the film narrates the story of a few high-school friends getting back together after a long time.
Both the films have a lot going for them. Coming after a string of successes, the audience will have high expectations from Dulquer. He is extremely popular among the youth and the film will definitely pull some crowd during the opening weekend.
On the other hand, Aashiq Abu is considered as the flag-bearer of new generation films in Malayalam. The expectation on Idukki Gold is also pretty high with the trailers and posters creating a buzz among the audience.
So, which film will win the battle at the box office? We will have to wait and watch.
