Aditya Birla Group company, Idea Cellular, on Thursday launched an affordable 3G smartphone, Aurus 2, with Android Jelly Bean OS. The new handset is the successor of Aurus which was launched in September last year.
Aurus 2 sports a 3.5-inch HVGA display and is powered by a single core 1GHz processor with 512MB RAM, 4GB internal storage with options of expanding memory via a microSD card. It also houses pretty descent cameras on both sides.
Commenting on the launch, Chief Marketing Officer - Idea Cellular, Sashi Shankar said, "Idea focuses on bringing the best of 3G technology at affordable price to our subscribers, thereby maintaining an equilibrium between both cost and technology. We are encouraged by the response to our 3G smartphones, having sold over 300,000 3G smartphones over the last one year. We expect Aurus 2 to meet the consumers' expectations for entertainment, e-mail connectivity, social networking, and browsing of smart apps and widgets."
Idea Cellular is offering special incentives to Aurus 2 buyers with 1.6GB 3G data pack along with a free three month TV subscription for ₹261.
Earlier in March, Idea Cellular had launched a similar low-cost 3G Dual-SIM smartphone, Zeal, for ₹5,390 with Android Gingerbread OS.
