The ICC World T20 2016 men's semifinal match might be shifted from the capital as Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) have been prevented from selling tickets for the RP Mehra block, which can host up to 1800 cricket fans. Other than the semifinal of the World T20, Feroz Shah Kotla is scheduled to host three more games -- England vs Afghanistan, England vs Sri Lanka and South Africa vs Sri Lanka.
The DDCA were already in a legal soup ahead of the tournament. Hosting games looked bleak, but just before the start of the ICC World T20 2016, they received the permission to host matches.
The Delhi High Court, however, were still to decide on the future of the RP Mehra block of the stadium. With a dispute over the use of the club house, DDCA will miss out on the opportunity of selling 1800 tickets.
"We were given time till Sunday evening to get clarity over RP Mehra block. Since the case is in court, we have not got any clarity over the same," DDCA treasurer Ravindar Manchanda was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.
"ICC wants to use that area for branding and also for seating purposes, since semifinal is a big game."
"We have not received an official word from BCCI or ICC yet, but our deadline ended this evening."
ICC is definitely not ready to lose out on the chance of earning sponsorships for the marquee game. A decision, over the future of the semifinal fixture of the ICC World T20, which is supposed to be held on March 30, is expected to be taken Monday.
