England were undone by a used pitch on Wednesday, but there should be no such problems when India play Bangladesh in the second semifinal of the ICC Champions Trophy 2017.
A relatively fresh pitch will be used for this game at Edgbaston, with India and Bangladesh looking to lock their place in the final against Pakistan.
The question for India to ask will be, with it being a fresh pitch, do they go back to playing the extra pace bowler?
Umesh Yadav was dropped for R Ashwin in the virtual quarterfinal against South Africa, and while Umesh was instrumental in knocking Bangladesh over for 84 in the warm-up game, it does look unlikely that India will make any change to the playing XI.
Ashwin showed his worth in that game and Jasprit Bumrah was quite impressive, sharing the new ball with Bhuvneshwar Kumar.
Just to add a bit more variety, playing Ashwin over Umesh makes more sense.
India could, of course, drop Hardik Pandya and bring in the more potent bowler in Umesh, but meddling with the balance of the team for a semifinal would not be the greatest of ideas. Also the reason why Kedar Jadhav is likely to play again, despite the batsman hardly being needed in this tournament so far and his fielding leaving a lot to be desired.
While India are expected to go in with the same playing XI that beat South Africa in their last match, there is a good chance Bangladesh might also do the same.
They went in with four pace bowlers for the match against New Zealand, bringing Taskin Ahmed into the playing XI. That does leave Bangladesh's batting slightly short, but it gives them more of an opportunity to restrict India, with that plan working well when they played New Zealand in their last game.
Mehedi Hasan has been unlucky to only be picked for one game in this ICC Champions Trophy so far, but it looks like the off-spinner might have to sit out again.
Taskin has a really good record against India, and the fast bowler, no doubt, will look to trouble the batsmen along with another bowler who has caused problems for Virat Kohli's men – Mustafizur Rahman.
Going with the same playing XI does leave Bangladesh a touch light on the batting, but as Shakib Al Hasan and Mahmudullah showed in their last game, all that does is put more responsibility on the batsmen, which ends up working in their favour.
Confirmed playing XI:
India: Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli (C), Yuvraj Singh, MS Dhoni, Kedar Jadhav, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, R Ashwin, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah.
Bangladesh: Tamim Iqbal, Soumya Sarkar, Sabbir Rahman, Mushfiqur Rahim, Shakib Al Hasan, Mahmudullah, Mosaddek Hussain, Taskin Ahmed, Mashrafe Mortaza (C), Rubel Hossain, Mustafizur Rahman.
