Ian Somerhalder and his fiancee Nikki Reed, who surprised fans with a quick engagement just six months after dating, have put their plans to expand their family on hold, as both of them are busy in their respective careers.
Somerhalder is busy with CW's "The Vampire Diaries" and his fiancée is occupied with fighting for the rights of animals and her music career. On top of that, the two are also planning their wedding, which according to reports, will be an intimate outdoor ceremony.
"They do want children but the want to be married for at least a year before getting into any of that," a source told HollywoodLife. "Plus they want to be in a place where they wouldn't be filming a lot. So it's been talked about but something that would happen when The Vampire Diaries is officially over."
So when will "The Vampire Diaries" end? The series where Somerhalder plays Damon Salvatore is contracted for yet another season, but based on one of its lead actors, that's all fans should expect. Actor Paul Wesley said in an earlier interview that he can't see the show going past season 7.
Speaking to Collider in January, Wesley, who essays the character of Stefan Salvatore, also hinted that the upcoming season might not have the same cast. While it is not yet sure who all will leave the show, there have been speculations of all three leads – Somerhalder, Wesley and Nina Dobrev – bidding adieu.
"I think that we have another year in it and then I'm not sure anything past that," Wesley said. "For me, I'm really still enjoying it because I'm directing it now and so that, to me, is like this really new thing. I think if it weren't for the directing maybe I would be feeling somewhat stagnant, but I think next season will be kind of interesting because I think it's – I think they're gonna shift the dynamic because I'm not sure if it's gonna be the same cast, to be honest with you."
"The Vampire Diaries" airs Thursdays on the CW.
