"Twilight" actress Nikki Reed sparked engagement rumours after she was spotted wearing a diamond ring at the Golden Globes on Sunday night.
The couple is yet to confirm the news, but sources close to the couple told the media that "The Vampire Diaries" actor did indeed pop the question to Reed, whom he has been dating for the past six months.
As per an E!Online source, Somerhalder told Reed he had "been in love with [her] for years...They're so happy. They were crazy happy from the start. Their families love each other. It just feels really right."
It is not yet immediately known when Somerhalder proposed to the "Twilight" actress, but the duo has reportedly expressed an interest to keep their engagement under wraps for a while longer, as it has hardly been a month since Reed was officially granted divorce from ex-husband, Paul McDonald.
This might also be why Reed has been wearing the ring on her right hand, instead of the left.
"Nikki said she wears the ring on her right hand because they want to keep it quiet for now. They mentioned a June date, they are really excited," reported In Touch, according to HollywoodLife.
Interestingly, this is not the first time the couple has sparked rumours of an engagement. Buzz of an impending marriage has been doing the rounds ever since Somerhalder met with Neil Lane at his Beverly Hills boutique in early December.
A few weeks later, the duo was spotted looking at rings at New Stone Age.
"They were absolutely adorable and you could tell they are very much in love," a source told HollywoodLife. "Nikki was pointing out items for Ian and vice versa. They looked at some engagement rings, including a 14K. gold diamond slice halo ring and an 18K. gold green halo diamond ring — both designed by Livin and an 18K large chocolate diamond ring by White Cloud."
While fans of "The Vampire Diaries" actor are happy that he is planning to settle down, a section is worried how his ex girlfriend Nina Dobrev will react to the news.
As reported earlier, Reed, Somerhalder and Dobrev attended the Golden Globes after party, where "The Vampire Diaries" actress reportedly avoided the new couple "like the plague."
"Nina avoided Ian and Nikki like the plague," a source told HollywoodLife. "She stayed surrounded by some friends and kept to the opposite side of the party."
"It was really uncomfortably because Ian and Nikki were walking around like they were the prom king and queen. Nikki has been in the business forever and has so many friends in the film and music industries. She and Ian were glued at the hip and put on some serious PDA, kissing throughout the night."
