It is easy to find Caitlyn Jenner's life glamourous, but throughout "I Am Cait" we see her struggle. The first three episodes of the docu-series capture her personal problems.
If she is struggling to find acceptance from her mother in one episode, she questions her dating life in another. It is at this juncture that we witness Cait's vulnerability. And for a Cait, who feels exposed, acceptance sort of feels like the world to her. Perhaps this is what she seeks from her step daughter, Khloe Kardashian.
In episode 4 of "I Am Cait", the dysfunctional relationship between the matriarchs of the Jenner and Kardashian clan becomes visible. Khloe confronts Cait over the Vanity Fair issue which chronicled her transition and says in very harsh words that Kris Jenner's name is almost tarnished by Cait.
When a visibly hurt Cait is upset by Khloe's "tough texts", the step daughter brazenly denies it. Khloe says, "I just said 'We don't care what you're doing.' Meaning we don't care if you want to transition. We want to support you and be there for you."
Khloe's tirade extends into the deep rift that exists in the family. She says that Kris Jenner should not have been mentioned in the Vanity Fair issue.
"We don't think that entails you speaking negatively about my mom [Kris Jenner]," says Khloe, adding, "In our opinion, you don't even need to mention my mom...let's not drag my mom through the mud."
The emotional conversation between Khloe and Cait is a throwback to their honest discussions in Keeping Up With The Kardashians. Nevertheless, the tone and circumstance wear a change.
We have known Bruce Jenner to be quite passive in the past, but it remains to be seen if his transformation as Caitlyn has made him more outspoken. Will Cait defend herself, or be apologetic?
"I Am Cait" will premiere on Sunday, 16 August at 9 pm on E!.
