India's second largest carmaker, Hyundai will reportedly launch its new Santa Fe in India in 2014.
Emerging reports suggest that the Korean car maker is likely to unveil its latest version of seven-seater Santa Fe SUV in India at the 2014 Auto expo. The carmaker, for the first time, will locally assemble the car at its Chennai plant, which will help the company to price its upcoming SUV competitively in the lucrative market. Earlier, Hyundai brought Santa Fe to India via CBU route, which had made the vehicle pricey in the country.
Though the new Santa Fe is said to have been undergoing tests for quite some time, the specifications of the vehicle are still scanty. Hyundai is expected to bring the new Santa Fe with changes to its exterior and interior to lure more auto aficionados.
The current model of vehicle which is pitted against the Toyota Fortuner in India could not get many takers in the country. An OverDrive report suggested that the new version of Santa Fe is likely to carry a price tag of ₹22 lakh for the entry-level two wheel drive diesel version with a manual transmission.
Globally, the Santa Fe is marketed with the engine choice of 2 liter turbo and a 2.2 liter CRDI. According to CarDekho, the latest avatar of Santa Fe would pack the same 2.2-litre CRDi diesel engine under the hood, which can generate a power of 194bhp and a peak torque of 422Nm.The report also noted that the upcoming SUV could be a five-seater.
The car maker is also expected to release its sub-four-metre sedan based on the Grand i10 and the new i20 in 2014.
