Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) is reportedly working on a new base trim targeting the cab operator segment in India. The trim will go up against the Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire Tour, the first generation of the Dzire sold only for the taxi segment.
Like the Tour, which is a strip-down version of the Dzire, the new Xcent base variant will not have some frills of the regular model. The taxi variant will not feature central locking, front power windows, full wheel caps, blackened pillars and a cooled glovebox, reports AutocarIndia.
The Xcent new base variant will be powered by the same 1.2-litre Kappa VTVT petrol engine that develops 82bhp at 6,000rpm and 114Nm of torque. The engine with CNG combination has demand in taxi market. The diesel unit will be 1.1-litre U2 engine that develops 71bhp at 4,000rpm and 180Nm of torque 1,750-2,500rpm. Both the engines come mated to five-speed manual transmission.
The current base model in petrol and diesel is priced at Rs 5.18lakh and Rs 6.01lakh, respectively, in Delhi (ex-showroom). The new base trim will be priced lower, and its sale is expected to be limited to cab operators.
