After the launch of the new Elantra sedan, Hyundai is planning to strengthen its SUV portfolio. The Korean car maker is planning to launch the Tucson SUV in October-November time frame. Emerging reports indicates that the SUV will be priced in the range of Rs 25 lakh to Rs 30 lakh.
A report in Business Standard claims that the new Hyundai SUV will be slotted between Creta and Santa Fe. The report also says that the Tucson's diesel variant will pack a 2.0-litre CRDI diesel engine imported from Korea. This engine is expected to come with two tunes of 35bhp and 180bhp mated to the choice of six-speed manual and automatic transmission. The petrol variant is expected to draw power from a 2.0-litre MPI four cylinder mill.
If the report is anything to go by, Tucson and Santa Fe will have wafer thin price difference. The flagship Santa Fe SUV is priced from Rs 28 lakh in India.
The third generation of Tucson comes with Fluidic 2.0 design philosophy of Hyundai. The face of the SUV is dominated by the signature hexagonal grille in chrome, flanked by LED headlamps. Tucson has more rounded body panels in line with Santa Fe. The SUV is built on a new platform that offers larger cabin space.
