Decks have been cleared to welcome the much-awaited Tucson SUV from South Korean carmaker Hyundai in India. The Tucson SUV will go on sale in the country on Monday, November 14.
Hyundai Tucson was initially scheduled for its launch in the country in October. However, the company was forced to reschedule it for November after seeing the response for the new Elantra, which went on sale in August.
The bookings for Tucson are already underway and the company has started dispatching the new SUV to its dealerships. Tucson, which will sit between Creta and Santa Fe in India, will be squared off against Mahindra XUV500, Honda CR-V and Skoda Yeti.
Tucson measures 4,475mm in length, 1,850mm in width and 1,645mm in height and comes with a wheelbase of 2,670mm. Based on Fluidic 2.0 design philosophy of Hyundai, Tucson flaunts a signature hexagonal front grille flanked by LED headlamps, cheeky bumpers and wrap-around LED taillights.
According to the leaked brochures that surfaced online, the Tucson SUV will be offered in three trims -- 2WD MT, 2WD AT GL and 2WD AT GLS -- and will come with two engine options. While the 2.0-litre CRDi engine, which can churn out 182bhp at 4,000rpm and 400Nm at 1,750-2,750rpm, will power the diesel model, the petrol Tucson will come with a 2.0-litre dual VTVT unit that will generate 153bhp at 6,200rpm and a peak torque of 192Nm at 4,000rpm.
The transmission in both the engines will be taken care of by either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic gearbox. The petrol variant of the Tucson claims to offer a mileage of 13.03 kmpl with the manual and 12.95 kmpl with the automatic gearbox. On the other hand, the diesel-powered Tucson will deliver 18.42 kmpl for the manual variant and 16.38 kmpl for the automatic variant.
The latest generation of the SUV is expected to see a price tag starting at Rs 18 lakh.
