Riding high on the success of its new crossover i20 Active and hatchback Elite i20, Hyundai India clocked sales of 38,601 units in April 2015, registering a growth percent of 9.5 against 35,248 units corresponding period last year.
The South Korean car-maker witnessed a sale of 12,425 units together by its Elite i20 and the i20 Active last month. However, the exports of the company declined by 13.8% to 12,904 units against 14,974 units last year.
Commenting on the April sales, Rakesh Srivastava, Hyundai senior vice-president (Sales and Marketing), said, "Hyundai with a volume of 38,601 units continued the growth momentum with 9.5 percent increase over last year on the strength of strong and young product portfolio led by 12,425 units of the Elite i20 and i20 Active in a challenging market conditions especially in the rural market."
In 2015, the next big ticket of Hyundai is its compact SUV ix25. The ix25 is tipped to make its India debut during the festive season this year, with a price tag in the range of ₹8 lakh to ₹12 lakh. Under the hood, the India-bound ix25 is likely to include 1.6-litre petrol and diesel mills. We also hear about the all-wheel drive version of ix25 for the Indian market; however, nothing has been confirmed so far.
Other car-makers like Maruti Suzuki and Toyota also posted strong sales in April. While Maruti recorded 27% growth last month at 1,00,709 units, Toyota registered 63% increase at 12,325 units.
