Auto lovers in India have heard plenty about Hyundai's upcoming compact SUV ix25, its codenames, design elements and powerplants. Now the latest buzz on the internet is that the Hyundai ix25 could also get a small 1.4 diesel engine.
Hyundai ix25, a model which is slated to make its India debut in August this year, is currently in its testing phase in the country. Now a new report of Auto car India claims that Hyundai will also be considering a smaller 1.4 litre diesel engine for its compact SUV ix25 in India, which does duty in Elite i20 and i20 Active along with 1.6-litre petrol and diesel mills. Apparently, an engineer who is testing the ix25 model with this smaller 1.4 litre engine has confirmed the news to the publication.
In the international market, ix25 is sold with 1.6- and 2.0-litre petrol engines coupled with 6-speed manual and automatic transmissions, with the choice of front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. However, it is not clear if the same will make it to the Indian market when launched in August.
From what we have seen so far, India-specific version of ix25 is likely to have a styling and design almost similar to its international counterparts with minor changes in the front and rear. The features expected to be included are central console with audio controls, air con vents and climate controls.
The SUV ix25 is likely to get a different name in the Indian market and if rumours are to be believed, the model will see a price tag in the range of ₹8 lakh to ₹12 lakh. Once it hits the market, Hyundai ix25 will compete with the likes of Ford EcoSport, Renault Duster, Mahindra Scorpio and Nissan Terrano.
