Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL), the country's second-largest car-manufacturer, raised the bar of its highest-ever domestic sales in October with sale of 47,015 units. The Korean company, which sold 38,010 units in the same period last year, registered a growth of 23.7%.
The new record scraps the previous record Hyundai India set on September 2015 with domestic sales of 42,505 units.
HMIL's export in October 2015 was down 17.9% to 14,777 units from 18,009 units in the same month last year.
The cumulative sales also continued the positive trend, with 10.3% increase at 61,792 units in October. Hyundai had a total sale of 56,019 units in October 2014.
Though the model-specific sales results are not released yet, it is evident that the recently launched Creta SUV had a pivotal role in the surge of sales. Right from its launch in July, Creta's sales are in top gear with 6,783 units sold. Creta became the top selling SUV with 7,437 units in August 2015, dethroning long-time leader Mahindra Bolero. The compact SUV also retained the "most selling SUV" title in September with 7,256 units sold.
"Hyundai sales of 47,015 units are all-time highest with an all-time high sales of Grand i10 with 14,079 units and continued strong performance of modern premium brands Creta and Elite i20/Active," said, Rakesh Srivastava, Senior Vice-President (Sales and Marketing), HMIL.
