Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) commenced its operations in the country in 1996. As the Korean manufacturer completes two decades in India, special-edition models of its small cars, the Grand i10 and the Xcent, are in the works. The Xcent special edition will enter market in April while the Grand i10 special edition is to make its entry in May.
"2016 is important for us. To celebrate 20 years of our success, we will introduce a special edition of Xcent this April at a competitive price for Indian customers. In May, we will roll out a special edition of i10, with new features and styling, [sic]" the Hindu quoted YK Koo, managing director of HMIL, as saying.
The special-edition vehivles are expected to come with minor cosmetic add-ons and more features inside the cabin. Chrome embellishments in the exterior, accessories, entertainment features and sportier looks will be part of the special editions. Going by the trend of previous special-edition models of Hyundai, the Grand i10 and Xcent special editions may also get sport pedals, special floor mats, seat covers, parcel tray, and door sil plates.
The special-edition models are not expected to see any change to the powertrains. Both cars will be powered by the 1.1-litre CRDe diesel engine or the 1.2-litre Kappa VTVT petrol engine. Both engines will be mated to five-speed manual transmission, while the petrol engine is also available with automatic transmission.
