South Korean auto major Hyundai is reportedly working on the refreshed avatar of its entry-level hatchback the Eon for the Indian market as the competition in the market is getting tougher by the day.
A report of AutocarIndia, citing sources close to the development, says that the Eon could soon get a makeover in India and is likely to boast changes both inside and outside. The Eon is also expected to get its next-gen model in the coming years. While other details about the updated Eon are scanty at this point of time, it is being said that the Eon is likely to boast a touchscreen infotainment system in its new avatar. The refreshed Eon is expected to hit the market in 2017. Hyundai may also offer airbag in the new model. However, nothing has been confirmed yet.
Hyundai Eon has not received any major update since the addition of the 1.0 litre variant in 2014. In the new avatar, as for engine, the new Eon is likely to carry over the same engines of the exiting model. In India, Hyundai Eon is sold in two engine options -- 800cc petrol and 1.0 litre three-cylinder one. While the small engine (800cc) is tuned to generate 55bhp of power and 74.5 Nm of torque, the latter churns out power of 68bhp and peak torque of 98Nm.
Hyundai Eon is currently facing competition from Maruti Suzuki Alto, Renault Kwid, the Datsun redi-GO and GO. In 2017, Hyundai is also expected to launch the new facelifted avatar of Grand i10 in India.
