South Korean auto major Hyundai is reportedly testing its popular hatchback Elite i20 with a new 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine under the hood.
The motor buffs at Auto Car UK report that the company has begun testing the model and Elite i20 with new engine option can be expected to make its maiden appearance at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September.
Under the hood, the new Elite i20 Variant is likely to get the Kappa 1.0-litre engine that was showcased at the 2014 Paris Motor Show last year. The engine, which is based on the Kappa 1.0-litre MPI, gets direct gasoline injection and a single-scroll turbocharger and it has the capacity to churn out 118 bhp of power and 172 Nm of torque.
Elite i20 with new engine is expected to hit the international markets sometime next year and the new variant could also come to the Indian market where the company is currently selling the model with Elite i20 gets 1.2 litre petrol engine and 1.4 litre CRDi diesel motor. While the current petrol engine of Elite i20 can churn out 83ps of power and peak torque of 114nm, the diesel motor is tuned to generate 90ps of power and peak torque of 220nm.
