If the emerging reports on the web are anything to by, South Korean auto major Hyundai is reportedly planning to drive in automatic version of its popular hatchback Elite i20 to India.
A report of MotorOctane claims that Hyundai is readying the automatic variants of Elite i20 and i20 Active in India as the competition in the market is getting tougher by the day with the arrival of the new Honda Jazz and the Maruti Suzuki Baleno.
According to the report, the company will equip its popular hatchback model with automatic gearbox soon. As we know, both Honda New Jazz and Maruti Baleno -- the premium hatchbacks in Elite i20's segment -- come with CVT gearbox on the petrol variants. From what we hear, Hyundai Elite i20 petrol will come with four-speed automatic transmission.
Launched in August 2014, Elite i20 received a warm welcome in the country and has also managed to be in the top 10 best selling cars in India within a short time of its launch. Based on Elite i20, Hyundai rolled out a crossover i20 Active in the country later.
Under the hood, Elite i20 gets 1.2 litre petrol engine and 1.4 litre CRDi diesel motor. While the petrol engine of Elite i20 can churn out 83ps of power and peak torque of 114nm, the diesel motor is tuned to generate 90ps of power and peak torque of 220nm. Recently, Hyundai also updated Elite i20 with Touchscreen Infotainment System.
