The Creta SUV, launched on 21 July, is one of the most successful vehicles by Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL). The compact SUV raked up 15,000 pre-launch bookings, which to soared over 50,000 by the beginning of October. The waiting period, which was initially three months, also rose to six-to-nine months subsequently, putting aspiring buyers on the wait till April 2016.
A report from AutocarIndia indicates Hyundai has significantly reduced the Creta's waiting period. Some dealers are saying they will deliver the diesel variants by January-end if booked now. The petrol models are available even earlier if booked now.
The report further indicates that the diesel automatic will be delivered in three months.
The significant reduction in waiting period is primarily due to the recent increase in production from the initial 5,000 units per month to 7,000 units. Hyundai India also increased the price of the Creta by Rs 25,000 on 16 October. This could also have slowed new bookings.
The waiting period is expected to come down even further, with Hyundai planning to increase production of the Creta and i20 from December.
The Creta is being offered in both petrol and diesel variants. The 1.6-litre VTVT petrol engine churns out 121bhp and 151Nm of torque, while the 1.6-litre CRDi diesel engine develops 126bhp and 259Nm of torque. The less-powered 1.4-litre CRDi diesel unit churns out 89bhp and 220Nm of torque. The entire engine is mated to a six-speed manual transmission, while the 1.6-litre CRDi is also available with six-speed automatic transmission.
With the increase in price, the Creta now costs Rs 8.69-11.29 lakh for petrol variants while the diesel variants are priced from Rs 9.56 lakh to Rs 13.77 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi.
