South Korean auto-major Hyundai's Creta SUV is a runaway success in the Indian market and the SUV is inching towards 1 lakh sales in the country. The Creta, which made its entry into the market in July last year, has clocked nearly 95,000 sales so far and continues to amass a sizeable number of bookings.
The scaling demand for the model has prompted the car-maker to increase the production of the Creta by up to 25 percent in the country. Some of the variants of the Creta even command up to six months waiting period, reports CarandBike. The increase in the production is expected to bring down the waiting period soon. Hyundai exports the Creta SUV to over 77 countries and has exported over 30,000 units of the SUV so far.
The Creta is currently one of the best selling UVs in the country with average monthly sales of 7,000 units for the past couple of months. Hyundai had registered a 50 percent year-on-year growth in July. The SUV recorded sales of 13,429 units last month as against 6,783 units sold in July 2015.
The Creta is offered in both petrol and diesel-engine options. The 1.6-litre VTVT petrol engine churns out 121bhp and 151Nm of torque, while the 1.6-litre CRDi diesel engine develops 126bhp and 259Nm of torque. Both the engines are available with either six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission. The less powered 1.4-litre CRDi diesel unit churns out 89bhp and 220Nm of torque mated to a six-speed manual transmission only. Recently, the company has updated its diesel variants with S+ automatic. Hyundai also launched the anniversary edition of the Creta in India last month.
